HI, I’M SAGE ANDREASEN
I have been practicing acupuncture for around 15 years now, primarily in the field of women’s health, fertility and pregnancy.
I am a founding team member of, and have been practicing at, the Acupuncture Pregnancy Clinic (established by Jane Lyttleton) since it’s opening day 08/08/2008.
This clinic was the first integrative IVF/Chinese Medicine clinic of it’s kind, and afforded an opportunity to become extremely experienced in the field of IVF, fertility and pregnancy, treating literally 1000s of cases over the past 15 years.
I am also a qualified Doula (though not taking on clients at the moment as my primary focus is on clinic).
MEET YOUR PRACTITIONER
Sage Andreasen is the owner of Prem Acupuncture, and has worked in Sydney as an acupuncturist for 16 years with a special interest in women’s health, fertility, IVF support, and pregnancy.
She has now moved to the Kiels Mtn on the Sunshine Coast and is taking on new patients in the field of fertility, pregnancy, women’s health and birth.
Sage worked (until her recent move to Qld in 2023) at the esteemed, integrative Acupuncture Pregnancy Clinic in Sydney’s CBD, Alexandria Specialist Day Hospital and Westmead branches of the clinic since it opened its doors in 2008.
This was one of the first integrative clinics of its kind. Sage went on to become a senior member and was fortunate to receive mentorship and guidance while working alongside renowned Chinese Medicine fertility veteran Jane Lyttleton.
Fertility and IVF
Working with an extensive network of IVF doctors and clinics, obstetricians, hospitals and midwives, Sage was fortunate to have an opportunity to see thousands of patients in both a clinical and day hospital setting, being on call for pre and post embryo transfers and tailoring specialised protocols leading up to or during IVF cycles, as well as being involved in programs that the clinic would run for PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) patients and long term difficult to treat cases of infertility.
Sage has treated many same sex partners going through IVF or assisted reproduction treatments, single patients with donor sperm and has supported many patients leading up to overseas donor egg cycles.
She has also supported patients with early perimenopausal symptoms, low ovarian reserve, endometriosis and an array of male factor/sperm health problems.
Sage’s level of experience enables her to really spend time with each patient, going through their history, life experience, physical and mental health, and try to help them find the way through their unique fertility presentations.
I believe that health is about balance.
Pregnancy and Birth
Throughout her work as an acupuncturist for IVF and fertility focused clinics, Sage will see her patients through preconception, early pregnancy worries, and throughout the pregnancy leading up to their births.
Sage has received referrals from obstetricians and midwives from local hospitals and birth centres, for acupuncture leading up to the birth, and occasionally from obstetricians suggesting patients try acupuncture and moxa treatment for breech or posterior presentations.
Sage has received Doula certification for the purpose of further informing her clinical practice and attending the occasional birth.
After the birth Sage offers postnatal treatments for birth recovery and birth traumas, treatment for caesarean scars, breastfeeding and a place for the new parents to have a safe space to come and sync into themselves and relax. Sage is experienced at and very happy to take care of your baby while you relax for treatment.
Cancer support treatments
Through her work involved in various medical networks at the Acupuncture Pregnancy Clinic, Sage has received occasional referrals to attend cancer patients in hospital to either help with pain, discomfort or a feeling of drug-related toxicity post-surgery, and has supported cancer patients for end of life, palliative care in their homes or hospices.
Sage has a wealth of personal experience and understanding when it comes to supporting a person through their cancer treatments, as her own husband has battled stage 4 head and neck cancer for many years now. To date her husband has done chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, supportive oligonucleotide therapy, a cancer vaccine made from his own cancer cells and many supportive integrative therapies.
Training and Modalities
Sage completed her Bachelor of Applied Science (Traditional Chinese Medicine) studies at the University of Western Sydney. To complete the degree, Sage spent 3 months studying full time at the Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Hospital in Nanjing, China, in 2007, working in the field of Gynaecology, Oncology, Gastroenterology and Paediatrics.
To see Chinese Medicine used as a primary medicine in a hospital setting blended alongside Western Medicine was a powerful experience, being able to see the full example of what Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture have to offer.
Personal Life
Sage is a loving mother of 2 (now young adult) children and previously sponsored 5 children growing up in India through atouchoflove.org
Sage recently moved from the bustling city of Sydney to the Sunshine Coast, hoping that the change of pace and lifestyle would be helpful for her partner’s cancer recovery.
As well as clinic life, Sage has sung and worked with Sacred Earth in their concerts and yoga music retreats in India, Bali, Magnetic Island, Ballina and the Sunshine Coast.
Sage has performed on her own and with other ambient yoga music artists Kate B and Daphne Tse. She also loves to sing Jazz with her Saxophonist husband.
Sage is known to her patients for her strong, calming presence, and her ability to provide a safe and nurturing space, sharing calming techniques with patients to manage anxiety and stress and help them create a positive experience despite their challenges.
Current Studies and Projects
To further inform her practice, Sage is currently studying lactation consulting, childbirth education and postnatal Doula practices.
Sage is in the process of adding a shop page to the website that will include some of the self healing tools she sometimes recommends or provides to patients, postnatal or birth aids, and a section on the shop where you can build a care package for a loved one who may be going through a hard time.
Sage is also writing a book about her and her partner’s cancer journey together.
As Sage has just moved to the Sunshine Coast, she will initially be practising from home (address supplied upon booking) until the practice grows and she can move to an external location.
